CT Tourism Coalition
In September of 2015, owners of Saybrook Point Inn, one of New England’s premier destinations, felt that Tourism marketing in Connecticut was being completely ignored. The owners believed that there needed to be a structural change in how those resources were allocated annually by the Connecticut General Assembly. Faced with this challenge, they turned to Cashman + Katz to help develop a strategy to bring this issue to the front of the Connecticut political scene in an effort to energize people about tourism and eventually get some additional dollars to support CT Tourism efforts. Working closely with the client, C+K developed a plan to create a bi-partisan coalition of industry partners to advocate for a dedicated source of funding for Tourism that could not be touched by the Governor or Connecticut General Assembly. Our team developed an identity for the collation, that includes a logo, website and numerous pieces of collateral that was used to recruit members to the coalition. After building that initial team, C+K hosted an advocacy day at the state capital to announce the creation of the organization and the creation of the Connecticut Tourism Caucus led by a local State Senator. Following the event, over 40 bi-partisan legislators announced their intent to be members of the caucus, and the Tourism Coalition championed a bill creating the dedicated source of funding for Tourism in front of the Commerce Committee. That bill passed 18-2 out of the Commerce Committee and the Tourism Coalition is now a real player in Hartford.
